Fourth Annual Light Up Chinatown! Festival: A Celebration of Culture, Food, and Community
Get ready for a weekend of food, fun, and festivities as the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation presents the 4th annual Light Up Chinatown! festival on August 24-25, 2024. This free two-day event will showcase the best of Chinatown’s culture, cuisine, and community spirit.
This year’s festival features an exciting new addition – Hawker’s Lane, where 10 renowned Vancouver chefs will serve up exclusive street food creations. Visitors can sample these unique dishes by purchasing sets of 5 tickets, which will be sold in advance. The culinary masters behind these creations include Roger Ma of Boulevard Kitchen, Brandon Grossutti and Wesley Young of Pidgin, and Will Lew of Pacific Reach, among others.
In addition to Hawker’s Lane, Light Up Chinatown! will also feature six food collaborations between local businesses, including Chinatown BBQ and Beaucoup Bakery, DD Mau and the Boss Bakery, and Kam Wai Dim Sum and Memphis Blues BBQ House. The popular Passport Program returns, encouraging visitors to explore the neighbourhood and collect stamps from local small businesses for a chance to win exciting prizes.
The festival offers a wide range of live entertainment, including traditional lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, walking tours, and music performances. A dedicated kids’ zone will keep younger visitors engaged, while cultural performances and interactive activities will delight attendees of all ages. The festival is fully licensed, allowing adults to enjoy beer, wine, and spirits on-site.
