Metropolis at Metrotown Waste to Wonder – largest flip flop animal art exhibit

Now until September 7, Metropolis at Metrotown is hosting Waste to Wonder, the largest flip flop animal art exhibit.

The Waste to Wonder exhibit features five life-size sculptures of Canadian at-risk wildlife which are narwhal, orca, bison, grizzly, and caribou. Each sculpture is skillfully crafted from recycled flip flops by Ocean Sole Africa. Over 6,500 flip flops were used to make the five sculptures, requiring 2,500+ hours of work by more than two dozen artists.

It is Ocean Sole’s largest exhibit to date in the world. Ocean Sole Africa upcycles washed up flip-flop and turns it into animal art sculptures. The goal is to raise awareness of ocean pollution from synthetic rubber that are discarded into the oceans every day.

All 5 animal sculptures will be available for purchase through an online auction with all proceeds donated to Variety The Children’s Charity. For more details, visit https://events.handbid.com/auctions/waste-to-wonder-exhibit
